Painting Coco Loco: Bringing a Slice of Havana to Boonville’s Main Street

When Coco Loco Cuban Café asked us to help set the vibe for their brand-new spot in Boonville, Missouri, we knew this would be a full-color, full-heart project. Over two visits—June for the storefront and interiors, and August for the side (kitchen alley) entrance—we turned walls into windows to Havana, designed the café’s logo, and created a string of photo moments guests can step right into. All told, Tony and I completed the work in 2.5 weeks of painting time—and we left with paint-splattered shoes, a camera roll full of smiles, and lifelong friends.

What We Painted

  • Storefront mural & logo: A bright, welcoming façade that announces Coco Loco before you’ve even spotted the door. We designed the logo to pair perfectly with the color palette and patterns outside and in—so the brand meets you on the sidewalk and follows you to your table.

  • Two classic Havana-style homes: Inside, we painted sun-washed facades that feel like a stroll through Old Havana—balconies, shutters, textures, and that irresistible pastel-meets-tropical color story.

  • Both bathrooms: Fun, punchy details that keep the joy going (because every corner counts).

  • Cuban flag on the map of Cuba: A bold icon to anchor the story and celebrate heritage.

  • Kitchen alley entrance (interactive): Our favorite twist—a palm-tree swing scene where you can “sit,” sip a painted coconut drink, and snap a photo beneath a signpost pointing to beloved Cuban cities. It’s an instant postcard from Boonville to Havana.

Why We Chose These Designs

Coco Loco’s owner is from Miami and moved to Boonville to be near family—bringing Cuban flavor to a small town hungry for new tastes and experiences. We wanted the art to match that generosity: bright, friendly, and unmistakably Cuban, with textures that feel lived-in and colors that feel like a warm greeting. The result is a cohesive visual identity—from logo to storefront to interiors—that invites guests to explore, pose, and share.

Community + Color = Magic

As Boonville’s first large-scale Main Street storefront mural, this project drew a steady stream of curious neighbors. People stopped to chat, kids pointed out details, and we heard plenty of “I can’t wait to bring my family here.” That feedback is exactly why we do what we do—public art is a conversation, and this one started before the café even opened.

Craft Notes (for our fellow mural nerds)

We worked with our usual pop-art linework and custom-mixed colors to nail that Havana palette—think aqua doors, coral walls, and sun-kissed yellow accents. The interactive alleyway mural was composed with camera height and traffic flow in mind, so the palm-swing photo opp frames faces perfectly and the city signpost reads clearly in selfies.

More Than a Mural

Yes, we loved the bright colors and exciting designs—but the best part was the people. We cooked up ideas alongside a family who’s about to welcome the whole town to their table. We tasted previews from the kitchen (spoiler: incredible) and left counting down to the grand opening.

If you’re local (or passing through), bring your appetite, your camera, and your curiosity. Coco Loco Cuban Café now has a look that matches its spirit—warm, vibrant, and ready to celebrate. We can’t wait to see your photos on the palm-tree swing.
